Adventure Run (LBE) (2016)

4 Hour or 8 Hour Adventure Run

What is Adventure Running?

An Adventure Run is like a an adventure race, except it is just the foot/trekking portion. The Adventure Runs will include navigation (possibly on multiple maps like orienteering, USGS, Topo), trail running, off-trail running, and pretty much anything else you might find in an adventure race.

You should be ready for the unexpected – but mostly for a lot of fun.

Selecting a Course

Difficulty levels (and lengths) are similar to adventure races (Elite Class – long and challenging; Sport Class – Shorter and easier – good for reasonably fit racers). Only experienced adventure racers and long course orienteers should select the elite level races. These are meant to be challenging and do require gear and map preparation. Elite racers will often have long unsupported sections of the race

If you are a reasonably fit trail runner – but have no adventure running or adventure racing experience – you should start with the sport level races. These offer shorter distances and easier navigation as well as more support options during the course of the race.

All racers should bring hydration and a compass.

About the Little Big Econ Adventure Run

The LBE race will be meeting at the picnic pavilion by the park headquarters off of Snow Hill road. This will be the staging and transition area for the race. Craig Sheriff has designed a challenging course for the elite racers – incorporating some great ROGAINE and linear elements. Teams should be prepared to cross the river multiple times and work off of multiple maps of different types. River crossings are currently shallow – but can change dramatically given rainfall. The terrain is made up of primarily open floodplain marsh (dry this time of year) interspersed with open marsh and pasture. A large section of open pine forest is also in the area. There is a very extensive trail network of running, biking, and equestrian trails.

Waterproof maps will be supplied.
